Bet you thought it was something for tennis, didn’t you?

No, but still pretty cool anyway. On October 15th, 2009, Jelena Jankovic placed 137,264 photos of people smiling in Belgrade Arena, setting a new world’s record!

Serbia broke the record set last year in Birmigham, England by collecting  23,271 more photographs for an additional surface area of 229 square feet (70 square meters).

Jelena, a spokesperson for Orbit chewing gum (owned by Wrigley’s who organized the campaign), challenged people to send in their photos with the tag line, “We collect smiles and we need one from you as well’. The response was overwhelming, with 80,000 photos collected from Serbs this summer along the Danube in Zemun and Ada Ciganlija by Orbit’s “smiling Patrols”, in addition to those e-mailed in.

What a fun event! Thanks for being instrumental in this Guinness World Record Jelena!

Now kick some ass at The Kremlin Cup in Moscow (she’s playing there right now) and get back to Number One!!!! We will be rooting for you!!!!
