The Sex and the City sequel just got a little more glamorous.

Along with the original fab four – Sarah Jessica Parker, Kim Cattrall, Kristin Davis and Cynthia Nixon – Penélope Cruz and Liza Minnelli are both appearing, along with Jason Lewis, who reprises his role as Samantha’s younger ex.

Despite previous reports, Cruz doesn’t play herself in the film, which is due to hit theaters next summer. For her cameo, the Oscar-winner fills the designer shoes of a banker, a source tells PEOPLE.
Cruz’s character may spell trouble for Carrie (Parker). Clad in a sexy backless black dress, Cruz was spotted at New York City’s Empire Hotel earlier this week filming a scene in which she gets a little too close to Mr. Big, played by Chris Noth.

Minnelli, meanwhile, filmed for three days on the Manhattan set. When she wrapped, she broke into a rendition of “Every Time I Say Goodbye” for the cast and crew.
“A total hush fell over the set. You could have heard a pin drop, it was such a moving moment,” says an on-set source. “Everyone had goose bumps, tears. It was a really lovely parting gift she felt like giving everyone.”

When Jennifer Aniston went sunbathing in a small purple bikini on holiday, there was no shortage of people to help carry bags, umbrellas and towels for the actress.

And it was no wonder as the star, who recently turned 40, drew plenty of admiring glances as she hit the beach and showed off her enviable figure in a pretty two-piece and straw hat.

The former Friends actress is holidaying in Cabos, Mexico with friends.

She has rented a large villa on the coast at the exclusive One and Only resort.

There, hotel staff whisked the trim star on a golf buggy to find the perfect sunbathing spot.

An onlooker said that after Jen had applied lotion, bodyguards and friends erected umbrellas so she could lie on her lounger to read a book and listen to music hidden from fans.

While she is in Mexico, the actress will be hoping to escape reports that Angelina Jolie spread rumours about her around the time that she divorced Brad Pitt.

Author Ian Halperin’s new book, The Untold Story Of Brad Pitt And Angelina Jolie, claims that Jolie, her manager and brother planted negative press stories about Jennifer in 2005.

One of the stories was that Jennifer put her career ahead of starting a family – which put her directly at odds with Pitt, who was desperate to become a father.

In the book, Halperin writes: [Angelina] was convinced that this is the story that would resonate with all these women who saw her as a man-stealing bitch.’

In the past, Jennifer has revealed that she’d happily have a child through artificial insemination.

‘I’m ready for anything,’ she said of using a sperm donor. ‘Bring it on. I wouldn’t rule anything out. It would not be my first choice though.’

The Marley And Me star has recently finished work on The Baster, a romantic comedy about a single mother, and The Bounty, with Gerard Butler.

Both hit the big screen next year.

Pre-production has also begun on The Goree Girls, where she will star as a Texas prisoner who joins a country band with her fellow inmates

Nominees for this year's Fido awards: Wendy and Lucy, Marley & Me

Put your paws together for the third annual Fido awards, the Oscars for canine actors, which will be presented at the BFI Southbank in London on Sunday. This year has been particularly strong for performances by four-legged film stars. It would be a huge oversight if the golden labrador (actually, all eight of them), who really got under the fur of naughty dog Marley in Marley & Me didn’t run off with a prize in the romcom rover category. The nomination list for comedy canine is particularly strong – the dogs in Beverley Hills Chihuahua and the CGI film Bolt are both serious contenders, and the ensemble in Hotel for Dogs showed canine chemistry at its best.

“It has been an incredible year, and it has been great to see dogs in central roles,” says Toby Rose, the founder of the Fido awards. In the mutt moment category, for a standout scene, the nominees include Lucy Reichardt (the dog belonging to director Kelly Reichardt) who starred alongside Michelle Williams in the indie road movie Wendy and Lucy, and the mutt who played the dog Tennents in the British film Fish Tank, who apparently took the part because of the film’s tender script and social realism.

Rose, a journalist who splits his time between London and Paris, set up another award to celebrate performing pooches, the Palm Dog, at the Cannes film festival in 2001 (the winner that year was Jennifer Jason Leigh’s dog, Otis, for his role in her film The Anniversary Party). The awards were inspired by his own fox terrier and muse Mutley, now sadly departed, who had appeared on TV, starred in fashion magazines, and met a considerable number of stars – Steven Spielberg, Charlotte Rampling, Chloë Sevigny (”Chloë was his favourite,” says Rose).

Rose wanted to create a British awards ceremony for pooches, and in 2007 the Fido awards were launched at the British Film Festival. The winners that year were the corgis who played the corgis in The Queen; last year, Dolly, a six-year-old Norfolk terrier, won for her work alongside Rupert Everett in St Trinian’s. “In our small way, the Fidos are giving recognition to performances from dogs. We hope some of the UK-based dogs will put in an appearance on the red carpet – we’re keeping our fingers and paws crossed.”

Variety is reporting that Gwyneth Paltrow will join Nicole Kidman in The Danish Girl, an adaptation of the David Ebershoff novel about the first post-operative transsexual. The tome tells the story of the relationship between transsexual Einar Wegener and his wife. Kidman will play Einar and Paltrow will play the wife Greta, who stood by her partner through the sex-change operation. Thomas Alfredson (Let the Right One In) is directing a script by Lucinda Coxon.
